Geographic Description- Coral Reefs are characterized by warm and shallow conditions, which are within the vicinity of the Equator. Constant temperatures between 64 and 84 degrees Fahrenheit and exposure to sunlight contributes to the increased photosynthesis of the
algae living inside the polyp, and results in the rapid production of
calcium carbonate necessary for the construction of coral reefs. Therefore, regions closer to the equator will have larger ecosystems of coral reefs because of accelerated rates of photosynthesis and calcium carbonate production.
