R and K Strategists
R- strategists:
- They include fishes, such as the Yellow-barred Parrotfish.
- They have many of offspring.
- Their mortality rate is high.
- They have a small body.
- They mature at a very young age.
- They are more likely to survive in an unstable environment.
K-strategists:
- They include marine mammals, such as Dugongs.
- They have few offspring, but there is a stronger connection between offspring and parents.
- Their mortality rate is low.
- They have a large body.
- They are more likely to survive in a stable environment.
Sea turtles could be considered both a r-strategist and k-strategist. They are large organisms with a long lifespan. However, they also have many offspring that don't require parental care.
